Out of the office

Sunday, August 28th, 2005

I’m heading to Oregon for a few weeks on Tuesday and won’t be able make any copies for anybody until I get back.

While I’m there, I hope to finish the first draft of our next work and maybe get a screenplay or two on the site.

Fandub subs?

Tuesday, August 23rd, 2005

Another Otakon has passed, and with it more musings on that awfully large room they show most of the fan parodies in. For those of you who have never been, their Video 1 is about the size of an airplane hangar which serves as a massive echo chamber for everything that plays in there. Which is not too much of an issue when subtitled programming is shown, but self-defeating when something dubbed is. Someone brought to my attention a possible fix for such acoustically challenged venues: add a subtitle track to our DVDs.

I’ve never thought our DVDs needed more than chapters and menus so long as we’re not widely distributing them, but this sounds like something worth looking into. I’d need new authoring software though, otherwise I’d have to create a hard-subbed version. Of course, I think the best solution would be to have multiple screenings of the more popular dubs in one of the smaller rooms, which I think are more fun for parodies anyway.

Last Day on the Job (for now)

Friday, August 19th, 2005

Today’s the last day of my summer internship here at Ask Jeeves Los Gatos. Tuoc paid for lunch for the whole office at Chevy’s on Saratoga as we have 4 or 5 new people on board. Today’s also the last day for the other intern Mariya, she’ll be heading back to Duke.

I’ve had a pretty good time here. The environment is friendly and pretty lax. I wish I could have gotten my hands dirty on more code. I’m sure that’ll come with time though. Hopefully I’ll have the opportunity to work in the new office after school starts.

It’s been a very positive experience. Good times.

Generic Pho place

Image005.jpg We went to some Pho place for lunch today, but nobody knows what the name of the place is. Nor could I find any info about it on the web. Here’s a gmap of it. If anybody knows how to put arbitrary markers on gmaps, please send me a message or post in the forum.

Pizz’a Chicago

Saturday, August 13th, 2005

Image003.jpg Went down to Pizz’a Chicago with Andrew. Found a closer Bank of America to my place too. Andrew picked up a 50% off of a large Pizza in the local free news paper, so we thought we’d give it a try. The garlic cheese bread sucked for the most part; very bland and over priced. The all meat pizza we had was pretty decent. And after eating 4 of the 8 pieces, we were pretty full.
Image004.jpg We took the rest to go, and mine reheated the next day was still pretty good. Not too greasy for an all meat pizza (not to say that there was none, still not bad). The service was okay, and even though they recommend ordering 25 minutes ahead of time, the wait still wasn’t too long.
