Dinner in solitude
Thursday, July 7th, 2005
I went out to go eat tonight because my house is lacking in the food department. Unfortunately for me though, by the time I left at 8:42pm, most of Sunnyvale had closed its doors and gone to sleep. So, I was forced to head out towards where I knew there would be places open. Namely: Remington & El Camino. At the very least I could get In-n-Out burger. Also there is a 24hr Longs to go shopping, which I did drop in on. Anyhow, I was in the mood for something salty and without cheese/grease. The first place I ducked into was this Indian buffet called Spice Hut. I quickly ducked out after realizing that I had no fuckin’ clue as to what any of the stuff behind the glass was.
Turning back toward the Longs, I saw a Korean place ahead of me called To Fu/(some korean characters). I figured tofu’d fit the bill for no-grease/cheese so I jogged on over. Upon getting to the door I noticed that the place was literaly empty. Like, seriously devoid of human occupancy. Though I was getting hungry and couldn’t readily think of any other alternatives off the top of my head. So, after venting my anxiety to my awesome girlfriend I headed on in.
The menu was pretty standard Korean Tofu place. In fact what I ordered was almost exactly like the tofu bowl from Tofu House and actually a little cheaper. Impressively, the tofu bowl had big, lean chunks of beef and a smattering of fresh veggies. The kim-chee selection offered not one, but two different types of my favorite bean sprouts! Also of high quality was the bowl of rice which had some kind of purple herbs steamed into it. Though, the fact that I didn’t immediately get the kim-chees after ordering did hamper my opinion of the service. That, and the fact that I felt like the Omega Man dining alone in a restaurant. *crickets* *coyote barking*
All solitude aside, the meal was decent. The food was excellent; I’d say better than Tofu House. If you’re on the El Camino and you need a place to eat after 8pm and you don’t feel like In-n-out, I highly recommend this place. It seems a shame that the couple running the place has no customers.
